A pre season shakedown anywhere??

now the car has the towbar and electrics finished, its time to finish (hopefully the niggly bits outstanding on the craft), and then hopefully run it in and give it a whirl..

then enter my first race,,, (eek) http://hovercraft.org.uk/images/icons/smiley_icons/icon_surprised.gif

Hi Mart,

I think it’s a Storm that you own? If it is then your hull is ideal for cruising / coastal events and you might like to consider coming to the April meeting at the River Blackwater. If you wish, you may be able to use a corner of the vast flat camping field (ask Henry) before taking to the mudflats and water. If after that you feel confident enough to get some mileage under your belt, you can be paired with an experienced driver for support on the journey.

Locally the slip behind Buttlins (Bognor) charges 10 to launch and provides a rescue boat throughout the season. I’ve not used it yet but I have spoken to them and they’re happy for hovercraft to operate from here, however, officially you will be constrained to operating on the sea and keeping off the beach.

Hope this helps.

I still think Blackwater provides a good opportunity to shakedown your craft pre-season. The growing popularity of Blackwater attracted some of the racing fraternity along with the cruisers last September. Perhaps Blackwater (and some cruising in general) could be defined as a hover-in with no boundaries over varied and sometimes exhilarating terrain for craft with good compliant freeboard and buoyancy.

Regarding the 447, whilst it’s fair to say that the majority of craft will be 4-strokes and that 4-srtoke use is being encouraged, it’s almost guaranteed that a few 2-stroke craft will attend the Blackwater event. Having said that, all craft may have noise measured.

I’m helping to organise the Littlehampton Coastal Race and at this event everyone who meets the construction and noise regs will be most welcome to participate whether you’re powered by 2-stroke, 4-stroke, nuclear powered or powered by an elastic band! But that’s a little off topic for this thread…

If you do end up launching from Bognor then maybe our paths will cross as I do intend to launch from there myself eventually.
