Came across this thing from a mate that does karting- http://www.nova-racing.com/nova_gb/index.htm

Thought it could make a fun f3 engine? 15kg all in seems pretty good to me although you would need deep pockets for it...

A bit confused about the rules for wankel engines in the racing regs tho:

'Wankel engines are rated at twice the swept volume per chamber times the number

of rotors, with the exception of engines where all the induction air is passed through

the rotor, in which case the engine will be rated as swept volume per chamber times

the number of rotors. '

Does it count as 2 or 4 stroke?

Yes, its one of the new class of engines where the number of expansions and compressions do not add up to an even number.

These have been postulated for many years; theoretically they can deliver enormous power outputs, but only for short periods. Tony Broad can probably explain the operation better than I can.

The engine is a 4-stroke as stated by the manufacturer.

Providing that the quoted chamber volume is the total for all three chambers and not each:-

For the purpose of meeting the HCGB regs a Wankel capacity is normally calculated as you stated eg. 294cc x 2 = 588cc calculated capacity for a single rotor engine which is oil cooled.

In the spec for *this* engine it states that the fuel charge goes through the rotor. The capacity is therefore calculated as 294cc (chamber capacity) x 1 (rotor) = 294cc

i.e. it meets the requirement for a 4-stroke F3 ~ PROVIDING~ that:-

1) ALL the induction charge passes through the rotor before entering the combustion chamber.

2) The quoted Chamber volume is the TOTAL of all three chambers and not each.
