Hi everyone out in hovercraft land. After vowing to buy a well tested 503 for my son & I to race, I have ended up with 3/4 of a TZR craft unraced. The problem is trying to locate the petrol tank. The ideal place would be under the carbs but this would mean replacing the airbox with cone filters. I noticed last year that nobody was racing TZRs without the airbox. Is there a reason for this? has anyone succeeded & if so what jets?
Merry christmas to you all & a happy new year. (well until team loopster start racing).

The TZR airbox is a resonant structure. It doesn't work so well without it. Its a similar principle to the exhausts on two strokes; its set up to work best at one particular rpm. It might be possible to set up a different intake but you would be in for some testing and development. It would be a lot easier to move the fuel tank.

Thank you for that Nick. Just had a brainwave, would it work ok with the airbox upside down?

there is also the TDR250 airbox which is a different slimmer shape but the same internal volume - TZR's don't run well without the standard airbox
