I have received a note from the family of Tony Shepheard informing me that Tony passed away in hospital on Wednesday. As many of you will know he had been ill for some time.

I have asked the family to keep me in touch with the funeral arrangements and if anyone would like to know what these are, please contact me.

I have a lot of memories of Tony having first met him when I joined the Club in the 1980s. We became very close and strong competitors in F3 and for two seasons finished the season just one place apart in the championships. Later I worked with him on Competitions Committee and Council and we became involved in several mutual projects.

He was very enthusiastic about his hovercrafting activities and also the Club and this showed in the number of positions that he held, many of them at the same time and ranging over cruising, racing and administration. He was a member of Council for many years.

He will be much missed as a Club member and I am sure you will join me in extending sympathy to his family.

I would also like to pass on my condolences to all of Tony's family.

Some 18 years ago Tony and Richard were instrumental in helping the girls school I attended to build their first hovercraft, and also gave us instruction on how to drive. We also spent a weekend with Tony and Richard and another school at Diss for a mini hover-in.

As long as I have known Tony, he has always had at least one 'official hat' within the club, and often doing jobs that no-one else would volunteer to do. He will be sadly missed, and remembered as a great embassador for our club and sport.

The Tilley Family would also like to pass on my condolences to all of Tony's family.

He was very helpful with me and my dad when we first started racing, taking time out to come over and chat with my dad about getting us started in building our first hovercraft in 89/1990.

The club saddly has lost a great member who was very willing to devote his time to the sport and anyone involved in it which he loved.
