Hi, I'm new to hovercrafting. Just acquired this eagle hull to repair and renovate but I have no idea what engine this is, nor did the guy I bought it from. Can anyone help with identification please and any other info to get me up and started.

Thanks

John

It's a Hirth flat 4. http://www.hirth-engines.de/english/

We had a bit of a discussion about it a couple of weeks ago when it appeared on ebay- http://hovercraft.org.uk/FUDforum2/index.php?t=msg&th=24 (http://hovercraft.org.uk/FUDforum2/index.php?t=msg&th=2410&start=0&S=a84577683b13bc0fd0f344f36896ef2f) 10&start=0&S=a84577683b13bc0fd0f344f36896ef2f

Dan Newton my be able to help a bit as Tony Conner isn't on this board- come to that Baz or John Rees may have some info- I'm sure someone from the Lynx lot will be along soon.

Nice to have another taff on board!

It's a Lynx hull isn't it?

The OP probably thought it was an Eagle hull because it has got K&M Products stickers on it.

Question to the OP. Did you get a lift engine with it?

Nice to have another taff on board!

Quick question. We now have 2 taffs on the board and neither actually live in Wales. Is it that bad in your homeland?? http://www.jonrb.com/emoticons/tumbleweed2.gif

Hello,

Thanks for the info which is very helpful. I will still need to get a lift engine though.

By the way, although I live in England its still very nice in Wales. Thats why they charge so much to cross over the bridge!

Many thanks and regards,

John

Good response, I think you'll get along just fine on here! http://www.jonrb.com/emoticons/wobble.gif

If you get a chance pop along to the Chilterns Branch meetings. Lots of very experienced Hoverers in that branch including the current F2 World Champion who hails from Newport Pagnell! They'll be more than happy to offer you some advice over a pint or two.

Info on contacts is here...

...can't remember which pub they meet at now since I moved away. http://www.jonrb.com/emoticons/shout.gifSUE, WHAT PUB IS IT?

Thanks, you're very helpful. Would you know of anyone who might be willing to come along to our engineering group (I teach DT and engineering at a school near Milton Keynes; our project from Jan is to rebuild the hovercraft we bought and get it working for our Technology evening next July) to perhaps explain how they work, show a video and generally get the kids enthusiasm going for this build. We would be able to cover expenses etc.

Regards,

John

For some videos have a look at my Father In Law to be's site...

http://www.hovercraftvideo.co.uk/ (www.hovercraftvideo.co.uk/)

...click on video gallery and then watch the Ride an F1 with Conrad Beale clip and the Clip from 2002 video clip. Con built the Pintail in these clips. EFA (meat sweats, thanks David!)

Also have a look at the Brian "Flying" at Claydon clip to show what happens when it goes a bit wrong!

Yep apologies, I've had a long hard day http://hovercraft.org.uk/images/icons/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif

I think after the huge amount of turkey I've eaten today the meat sweats kicked in and started to drip into my eyes. Got I feel fat. <Goes off to lie down for a bit>
