Got to agree Excellent job on the new site
When all the last 40 years of mags are all loaded onto the site this will be a unique source of information into light hovercraft development over the years.
Well done to all involved creating this new look site

HI all,

Took a bit of figuring out how to sign in but with help eventually got here.

One question I have is about our user names, have we got to stick to the ones we have been allocated or is there somewhere on the site we can chang it to our own?

I'll second that - I know that a huge amount of work has gone into getting this up and running, John and Jon are to be congratulated on such a fantastic effort on our behalf. I'm still finding out whats here - but so far it seems to be a very dynamic environment. I've already renewed by membership online!

OK - here is the deal.

If you are an HCGB member you can request a username change ( giving me your current username and the requested new name).

Provided it is a legal name and hasn't already been taken by anyone else then I will change it (this is a ONCE ONLY deal!).

Due to the amount of work involved, I will queue all of the name changes until next weekend and do them all at the same time (the site will have to be taken offline during this time). Once completed, you will see an announcement that username changes have taken place - you will then need to login using your new name and current password

If you have any questions then ask away!

Cheers,

John R

Phew, got here at last (by logging in as Bob! - need to sort the 'family member' thing). Mag only turned up today. Did find using the back button not so good or have I missed something! Seems not so easy to flick between forums. Anyway nice to see all you folk. I would like to change colour/font size, BUT NO TOOLS. Ooops sorry only way to highlight that problem!

Hi there, will sort you out your login shortly, I will private message you the details.

Post editor settings. If you go into the User CP and click on Edit Options. Scroll to the bottom to Miscellaneous Options and you will see a box called Message Editor Interface:. Click in the box and change it to either Standard Editor or Enhanced Interface. Save the changes. Now you can do all fancy stuff!

Hope that helps.

I have started a thread in the Members Area of the forum for questions about the website.

Post your questions here http://www.hovercraft.org.uk/showthread.php?t=21610

Don't Panic!! He is currently away from the internet world until tomorrow. Your request will be waiting for him in his inbox so when he gets back as his reply says earlier in this thread he will change your name at the weekend and you will be emailed to tell you it has changed.

Hope that helps John!

Seems not so easy to flick between forums.

This is because we have so many forums now that we have member areas.

Here's a quick tip.

The green bar that goes across the screen just under the main menu bar becomes the navigation bar when you are in the forums. Right now it will read something like:

The Hovercraft Club of Great Britain (http://www.hovercraft.org.uk/vbforum.php) > General Forum (http://www.hovercraft.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=2) > new web site (http://www.hovercraft.org.uk/showthread.php?p=60239#post60239)

All you have to do is click on General Forum to go up one level and The Hovercraft Club of Great Britain to go back to the top level that shows all the forums.

I becomes even handier when you are in the member areas as there is another level of forums. If you are in the Cruise Talk forum the navigation bar will show this:

The Hovercraft Club of Great Britain (http://www.hovercraft.org.uk/vbforum.php) > Club Member Areas (http://www.hovercraft.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=7) > Hover Talk (http://www.hovercraft.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=8) -> Cruising Talk

If you click on Hover Talk you will go back up one level to see all the discussion forums for club members. If you click on Club Members Areas then you go up two levels and see all the forums available to members (including the archive forums etc).

It's all new and takes some playing with but I'm sure you'll work it all out!! ;)

I've changed everyone's profile to use the enhanced editor as standard - it's much easier to use.

Seems not so easy to flick between forums.

As well as the method Jon describes of backtracking out of a post you can also jump directly to ANY forum using the Forum Jump menu (bottom right of every thread view page).

You may also notice that there is a Similar Threads list at the bottom of the page - handy is you want to quickly find similar discussions.

With the enhanced editor, in addition to using the buttons in the top toolbar, you can apply standard bold/italic/underline using the normal Word control key combinations (CTRL-B for bold, CTRL-I for Italic, and... well, you get the idea!)

There is lots more to come........
