View Full Version : Building with Foamular 600

I am about to start building a stretched Sevtec Surveyor. I will be using System 3 epoxy with 6oz cloth. I have seen a few sites where the builder uses Foamular foam. Mainly because it costs so much less than other core material; it is also very light. Does anyone have experience with this?

Not recommend - it's a polystyrene insulation board and isn't structural (no shear strength is specified for a good reason). To get decent structural strength in a composite you would need to use 50-75mm thickness of foam rather than the 12mm specified in the plan

It might be better to use a proper structural core material and offset the extra cost by using polyester or vinylester resin instead of epoxy?

See, told you, these guys know it all and have most prob. done it too.

Welcome Fco and hope your build goes well.

Thanks for the information. I will probably just use some for the cabin enclosure and thrust duct. I am not expecting much impact in those areas.

the thrust duct has to be structural sound enough, to contain a blade failur!
