To celebrate the end of the racing season both here and in the USA next weekend 26/27 September we're going to broadcast live both the UK National from Towcester and 'Roar on the Shore' from Lake Pontiac Michigan USA.

Taking full advantage of the 6 hour time difference we will broadcast Towcester starting around 1100am UK time, then when it ends around 1700 -1800 UK time we will switch to Roar on the Shore during their pre racing practise session.

The US event will be hopefully shown live during the evening in the beer tent at Towcester. More details on the two events are available on the live site at www.live.raceresults.info (http://www.live.raceresults.info) Don't forget if you're promoting the event on websites outside the club please use the address www.live.hovercraft.org.uk (http://www.live.hovercraft.org.uk)

Keep your fingers crossed!

Hi Gavin, still craftless? maybe you need this (http://sportboats.apolloduck.ie/display.phtml?aid=101063) . Only problem is it has not enough range to cross the Atlantic:). Philip

Blimey that thing makes nearly as much spray as a Hovpod! ;)

I've not heard about this US thing, sounds interesting. Perhaps we should join them for one of their cruises one day. They sound epic!

Would be good on The Raid - a 5,000 round per minute gun would probably reduce the need for a police escort through Lyon

I will do my best to be watching.

Have got to go to Johannesburg though, maybe I can get out of it.

I hope some folk will find time to promote the club by putting links to this weekends live coverage of 2 events on 'non hoverclub' websites. Don't forget if you're promoting the events on websites outside the club please use the address www.live.hovercraft.org.uk (http://www.live.hovercraft.org.uk)

Thanks for the feedback. We've just had a very successful quick transmission test from Chris Sorgatz on Lake Pontiac Michigan USA. Looks like we're all set to bring you 2 brilliant racing events this weekend. - from Towcester UK in the afternoon UK time, then as soon as racing ends here we will switch to cover 'Roar on the Shore' from the US, during the evening UK time. That's about 20 hours of coverage over the weekend - better get lots of tinnies in!!
Once small hiccup - I got the timezone wrong for Michigan. They're on Eastern time 5 hours behind UK.

Hi Keith,

FYI: I get about a 1-2 minute full broadcast, then its a return to a spinning circle. It never returns until I manually reload the page. (I'm using the exact same system as always.)

Bob, have you tried increasing the local storage? - Right click on the image, select settings|Local Storage and increase to 1Mb.

Yep! Tried a multiple of things, actually, always with the same result. It's odd, really, as when the broadcast came from Poland it was continual with no problems whatsoever. Same from Fawley. Today is particularly annoying.

I do know that my provider, Bell Canada, is known to 'throttle' downloads but this usually only happens at peak periods. This isn't a peak period.

how do you see the lap times at the same time as the racing is going on missed what barry was on about

Keith Oakley
26-Sep-09, 12:56 PM
If you watch the video full screen you won't see the lapchart. If you have the video quarter screen (in its usual place on the right) so you can also see the map on the left then you should see the lapchart below the map & video. To see more of the lapchart press the 'F11' key on the top row of your keypad and you'll loose the headers at the top of the screen. Press F11 again to get back to usual screen

Hi Keith,

I cannot explain why, but all worked perfectly well for the last race and is continuing to work well. I didn't do anything, ergo: whatever you did corrected my problem. Thanks!

Keith Oakley
26-Sep-09, 01:37 PM
Beware there might be a few secs time difference between the video and the lapchart. Also the lapchart may occasionally show the wrong craft no eg 176 was No1 Dan Turnbull. Its because with 70 craft here were having to share some tags between 2 craft and the update doesn't all come thro. It gets corrected at the end.

I must say, I know how hard it is and I appreciate all the effort, but could we see more racing tomorrow and less trees and grass. Also can the director please leave the camera on a racer through a transition before changing to another shot.

Other than that, you have all done a sterling job and I am sure tomorrow will be great. Pitty about old Paul (16) having a bad weekend so far, maybe tomorrow he will have better luck and put on a great show, lets see all three big boys fighting for first.

Thats it for me, maybe will checkout what's happening later over in America.

Till Later.

Thanks for the feedback, we're going to try a different approach today.

Its a lovely sunny morning and the scene is set for a great final days racing. First race scheduled for 1130am UK time, we should be on air by 1100 hangovers permitting. When we finish around 1600-1700 we will switch to Roar on the Shore in the USA for their 40 lap endurance race.

Great party last night about 250 folk in a big marquee watching the US racing on a big screen. Great pics from the US finishing with a WIG flypast. Totally apt because the UK audience were all wearing wigs and funny hairdos to celebrate Alophia Awareness Day.

Racing has started - look for laptimes at bottom of page - use F11 to expand your screen

Hi all!

Loving the racing! I hope everyone's missing my White Coat and myself! Good luck to Bearwood - and thank you Barry, for getting all the Bearwood drivers' names right.

Any chance Barry-Cam is up and running? If so, could Barry swing by the Bearwood Camp and take a look at the new craft the boys have completed recently, as I'd love to see how it looks now!

Also, is it just me, or do the craft all look shorter and taller than usual? Thought it wass something to do with my resolution - but after much tampering, no effect. Is anyone else getting that issue?

Hands up here for the tall fat craft, completely forgot we had several widescreen cameras filming in 16:9 and were sending as normal 4:3, grid and the run up to the second lake would ahve been right but of course only see the front or the back from there! We'll put it on the checklist for next year

Keith Oakley
28-Sep-09, 10:46 AM
Barrycam has been temporarily retired because its picture quality is eclipsed by the broadcast quality cameras we're now using. On the to-do list for next year though is cameras in the paddock, it was just too far away for the course cameras to cover it.
Technically it was our best effort yet and I hope you found the camera selection on sunday 'told the story' a bit better. We're learning on the presentation side as well as on the technology. We've successfully transferred the technology to our friends in the US and I think their first show on saturday night was fantastic. We had 250 folk in wigs and funny hairdo's eating dinner in the marquee watching a WIG flying live in the US on a big projection screen......
My thanks to the huge OB team that made it happen but particularly Paul Taylor, Ross Hammond, David Atkins, Roger Drew, Andy Collins, Jeff Green and of course all the kids.
