View Full Version : Eagle 500 prop shaft connection

31-Aug-10, 03:32 PM
Hi, I recently purchased an Eagle 500, took it out this weekend for it's first trip and unfortunately the propshaft sheared causing mass destruction of the drive and ancillary components.

Does anyone know how the end of the shaft connects to the centre of the H support frame?

Could it be a screw thread?

Unfortunately K&N are away on holiday until the middle of Sept, so any help would be appreciated?

Also are there alternative places to buy the main belt drive cog and smaller one on the engine drive?

Thanks - not a good start to hovercrafting, but in at the deep end anyhow!

One of our frequent contributors has "there's no such thing as a standard hovercraft part" as his signature- and it's true! Send me some pics of what you've got and I'll see what's what.

Where did you use it, off a cliff?

Those should not shear off at all, sounds somthing fishy.

Where did you opperate?

First image is looking down on engine drive cog.
Second is the cog that fitted on the propeller shaft. 40 raised teeth, 160mm diameter.
Third is the fractured prop shaft stub rotated through 90 degrees to right.

The belt is a TEXROPE STB 480 H and measures about 120cm (4foot)
Thanks for everyones help so far and the pms

It was my first outing, on a large flat field and occurred after about 10 mins.
