Hi Guys
I have recently saved a pindair skima 12 from the scrap yard.
It had sat for 12 years and it is in a sory state, if it sat much longer I think it would be lost for good.
I am told that it is #012 the last to be built.
The skirt is bugered and it looks like this is the one thing that I cant fix myself. Would anyone know if there are spares floating around for this craft or can aid in knowledge on how to build a new skirt?
Your coments would be great as I am new to HCs but have allways loved them and I am trying to keep an old craft from the knakers yard.
Thanks in advance and best wishes from NZ
I will post pictures when I work out how

Hi Johny

Nice save. That's a big bag skirt isn't it?
What condition is the rest of it in?

It may be worthwhile to contact the hovercraft museum, they did one up for a TV programme, see here http://www.hovercraft-museum.org/n21_34.html
good luck and keep us posted with your progress

Hi Johny

Good to hear you have saved this Hovercraft :)

The Hovercraft Museum have a Skima 12 which was restored a few years back in conjunction with a TV programme - 'Salvage Squad'. The restoration was carried out by Griffon Hovercraft and the skirt / inflatable outer structures by Hovercraft Consultants Ltd - who are now a part of Griffon Hoverwork.

The Museum has a few copies left of the Salvage Squad programme on VHS (PAL) as far as I am aware which I'm sure you would find of interest.

Odd coincidence - I was talking to Mike (Mr Skima) Pinder at the worlds last week and he mentioned the NZ Skima12. Was it used at the airport to rush out over the mudflats to a downed plane? - or am I thinking of somewhere else?

Hi Guys
Yes #12 was used at Auckland airport as a rescue craft,
I first heard of her about 20 years ago I spent a lot of time trying to chase her down but had no luck.
a few Weeks a go I went to a Biodiesel Factory in East Tamaki in Auckland NZ and there she was.
The owner Tom gave me her history and said that the vandals had got to her again and this broke his heart, So if I wanted her I could take her away on condition I did not scrap her.
So now I have her back at home Gisborne and am begining to bring her back.
The Hull is sound and the Thrust and lift fans are good. but the skirt is missing but the the inflatable pontoons are there but damaged.
The instruments have all gone and the steering wheel is gone too. The Engine is a gonner but 350 Chevs are easy to get here.
The inside is ripped but not a big deal.
I have my work cut out but I think it will be worth it.
Thanks for you interest. Keep up the good work

Hi Johny

She was destined to rescued by you ;)

I'm sure Warwick @ the Museum and the people at Griffon will be happy to help where they can.

I wish you all the best with her restoration - and do let us know how you get on.

I have removed the thrust Duct and propeller nearly ready to removre the Engine.
I understand that Salvage squad had restored one of these for the HC museum.
Can any one send me a copy of the episode where they restored the Skima 12.
I do not seem to be able to buy a copy anywhere.
regards John
