NEW REGULATIONS REGARDING TRAILER AND LOAD DIMENSIONS.
Previous Max of 2.30 mts has been increased to the following behind a "suitable towing car" which,
NO LONGER has to be over 3500Kgs,
1 Max Trailer width is NOW raised to 2.55 mts.
2 Side overhang of LOAD can be 305 cms either side BUT subject to an overall,
EVENTUAL WIDTH 2.90mts.

I am sure some members will perhaps "disagree", initially but can i, perhaps, ask members to first google and or fully check these facts out for themselves?

Yes that's correct Nick.

I think the idea was to bring some commonality with Europe and eliminate the differing legislation.
For example there have been many European caravaners coming into the country who tow 2.5 metre wide 'vans (a norm in German manufactured vans) behind a vehicle with a GVW substantially less than our previously required 3500Kg. This left the police in a dilemma - as whilst that was illegal in our country - it was perfectly legal in the holidayers country of origin. I doubt the department for culture would want the police arresting people coming into the country on a holiday who would be intent on spending money here to boost tourism and our economy

The law now allows a vehicle with a GVW of less than 3500Kg to tow a trailer with a maximum width of 2.55 Metres as Nick said and a maximum length of 7 Metres (excluding drawbar & hitch) - and a vehicle with a GVW over 3500Kg to tow a trailer with a maximum width of 2.55 Metres and a maximum length of 12 Metres. The combined length I think is a limit of 18 Metres.

Of course all of the other regulations regarding towing weights and safe limits (85%) - overhang - markers etc remain in place as far as I'm aware.

The NTTA has the update on it's front page and I think will be further updated in time to reflect the new legislation:

When I have the plans passed for the workshop extension - completed the workshop extension (!) - finalised the Mustang refurbishment - rebuilt the trailer - found the time to do all of this - absolutely ;)
