    Default Generator help needed

I tried to use my 750W generator to run a 500W micro wave last year and it really struggled. I'm wondering whether the problem is one of power factor.

Can anybody advise?- Would a digital type be better, or a digital invertor, or simply a more powerful genny?

    Cheers

    Hi Ewan,

The 500W normally refers to the power that the microwave produces, the actual power used to drive it would probably be about 850W, hope that makes sense.

Interestingly enough, I've now found an article on generator selection which points out that as well as the near double power to run the oven, you have to allow as much as 25% more o charge the capacitor at start up, hence for A 600W microwave, you need a 1.5KVA gennerator!

To get a 2.6 kVa gennies to run an arc welder you have to rev the nuts off it by manually pulling on the throttle and then spark it.
