    Default fan

On taking my 503 engine out last week I noticed that the leading fan blade of each pair is set at a finer pitch than the second one of the pair. Just curious as to why this is. It worked well enough like this last year but wondered if another set up may work better.

    Cheers for any input.

I assume you have 6 blades in a 9 blade hub. One theory is that what you effectively have is three VERY broad blades. By having the lead blade at a softer pitch, the second is biting ata little bit of clean air, instead of being "in the shadow" of the first.

I don't know whether anyone has empirically proved this to be the case though
