    Default scrutineering bays

    Claydon saw the introduction of scrutineering bays which seemed to run OK once everyone realised what was happening



    whilst i see advantages to it, i think there are more disadvantages



    firstly a craft that could be totally unsuitable and unsafe for running, would have to be started, driven through the paddock to the scrutineering bay



    secondly it means everyones engine will be started from 8:30am onwards !!!! - given the noise sensitivity of most venues and family members still snuggled up in bed, we are not doing ourselves any favours - currently (with odd exceptions) the first time engines are heard in anger is first paractice(10am onwards)ask local residents which they would prefer.



    was there any other reason other than fairness for introducing scrutineering bays and is it not a case of scrutineers sticking to working their way down either end of the paddock, in order with no preferences given



    comments please and will we have bays at Whittlesey ?

    The decision on whether to use bays or not lies with the chief scrutineer of the meeting. At some meetings it is not practical due to lack of space e.g. black ditch,jakes etc. Bays normally allow a faster throughput of craft, as well as a more organised queue, however it does have disadvantages e.g. noise.



    As far as safety goes, craft will already have been previously scrutineered at a previous meeting, so are unlikely to be dangerous. All new craft are required to be initially scrutineered by the chief scrute of the meeting in situ before being operated for the first time at a meeting. this also includes starting the engines.
