Default Redex Engine Cleaner and Rotax

    Hi all,

I have recently started maintaining my Air Cadet Squadron Hovercraft. I have a general idea about most things but im no expert. Our cyclone has a Rotax 447 which is running very roughly and as far as im aware it hasn't been serviced for years! My boss reckons Redex engine cleaner is appropriate but I have my doubts knowing it is an aviation engine. I would just like your views on this and any help would be much appreciated.

    Dan

    Give me a ring , 07976 462494, 01226 751652

We run several of these at the Army College they are absolutely bomb proof if they still have the cooling fan.

Redex will decoke it but that wont be the problem and you may do a piston with it.

Im in Barnsley so i can call and have a look .

    New plugs

    Strip and clean the carb.

    Clean the airfilter

New fuel and make sure the oil ratio is bang on

New fuel filter whilst we are on with it.

If it wont start put a little fuel on the airfilter. The choke plunger sometimes isnt enough on these. few pulls and it should go.

I think we spoke a few years ago at Rother Valley,You opposite quick fit i think .

Quick question if you don't mind but what squadron are you from??

I'm wondering as i'm the Sgt i/c of the 198 (hinckley) squadron Moto-cyclone (Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing, Central and East Region) and it would be interesting to compare notes so to speak. Plus if you get your bossman to sort out getting your craft to events then it gives us a chance to meet other squadrons with a similar craft and so we can help each other out.

    [FONT=Arial]Hi Pete,

148 Barnsley Squadron, South and West Yorkshire Wing, North Region.

Sounds like a good idea to me, I’m surprised at the amount of help/events I have been offered just from this one post. It’s amazing!

Well our HC was completed in 1989ish, marine-ply construction and I believe it was the first one in the Corps. As mentioned earlier we have an older Rotax 447. It’s not ‘fast’ (As much as I would like it to be) and the performance is below average at the moment, but it’s adequate (just) for its main role of cadet Training and Publicity.

Also I have a feeling that a lack of care and attention to the engine is going to have its consequences soon, hence the plea for help

Does this mean we might have a small amount of inter squadron competition?

    447 are allowed in juniors.

    I didn't suggest that did I??

but we have 3 weeks before our hovercraft debuts at our wing field day to prove to the various COs, WSOs and our Wing commander.

P.S. if you don't understand what i've just said then don't worry, Dan should
