    Default New fan design?

    Kawa Hovercraft in the US have just announced they are offerring an new fan design to hovercraft owners;

    This design looks very interesting - it has a sickle shape and also the grooved surface and serrated leading edge (the whale flipper theory at work ). They say that the manufacturer has approved it for use in a hovercraft - that has to be a major benefit over MW, etc.

    Has anyone seen this design before?

    looks like hascon make them.

    Its a seriously interesting shape, would be interesting to see some data on these things.

    without the leading edge shape, and the ridging on the blade surface. The shape of the blade is more suited to running in a tight tip clearance ducted fan.

    serrated edges are a noise reduction technique on props/ducted props (torpedoes), used in the military for some time, pc fans and RC plain ducted fans are using it more now.

    I assume the ridges in some way reduce flow and tip seperation?

    mental looking thing, wonder what speeds they are designed to spin at.

    Well it looks like its not a whale power fan

    I just got this reply from Stephen Dewar from the

    WhalePower Corporation

    Hi Trevor,

    Thanks for your interest. I'm afraid we aren't making fans of any kind as yet because we're focusing on wind and water turbines first and that market is so huge that even selling licenses and developing design elements is a massive exercise.

    These blades should be superior to anything available for hovercraft, etc. We have just begin to talk to manufacturers who are interested in fans, jet boats, irrigation pumps etc. We do intend to get some of those products developed and tested over the next year

    So keep looking
