Default Make or Break a hovercraft in 28 days

HELP... The eagle hull (courtesy of Jonothan Tall) is the craft that I am hoping to race or let my brother race (if some thing faster comes my way) but this is the first time I have done some thing like this and I was wondering if any one had any SENSIBLE advice for me. The engine I am hoping to put into it is a tzr 250 currently in a motorbike in my back garden and I havent got a clue wot to do after the fibreglassy bit.And unfortunatly my dad is always at work.

    We already have:

    engine

    all the engine bits

    engine mount

    full skirts

well every thing just I dont know how to get the engine off the bike and into the craft.

    Hi Josh

why not copy Barry's old F3 - thats an Eagle with a TZR in it

having said that 28 days is pushing it seeing you'll be at school for most of it

the words bitten and chew come to mind but i've been proved wrong before

    good luck

    Hello Josh,

Have you got a manual for the TZR with a sensible wiring diagram?

    If not Pm me

Another question is gearbox or not?

As far as I know most people run without. No gearbox requires engine stripped and cutting the gearbox off then rebuild.

    A crank adaptor is required.

This wil determine what type of belt you use and top pulley etc etc depending on the diameter of the duct. This is due to tip speed etc etc ( I do love etc etc fills in the gaps where I havent got a clue what im talking about.)

    Fuel feed? Gravity or pumped

Cooling.Bike rad with external pump.Seems the johnson pump is favoured.Remove bikes pump replace with pipe take off and connect to pump driven off 12volt battery charged by engine.(You need the 12v battery for the servo cct.

Road bike may require a jet change on the carb 280 possibly higher or lower depending on the exhausts. If incorret looking at burnt out pistons or engine not reving high enough.

Test using the chop method.(Next doors loved me doing that.lol)

Theres lots more things that many more people here will be answer better than I can.

Couldnt see flow straighteners in the pic. These will help.

Wow! I thought I left things to the last minute!!

Best advice i can offer is to take 10minutes to sit down and write a comprehensive list of all the jobs which need doing. Think about what needs doing in a methodical order and write evrything down.

Then break this down into smaller jobs and try and make yourself a schedule of work based on the realistic amount of time you have left.

If you take the time to plan a project like this then you stand a lot more chance of completeing it. Otherwise you spend too much time standing looking at it wondering what the hell to do next!! Trust me, been there!

My only other advice is to ply your dad with lots and lots of cups of tea!

Best of luck, you can do it!

That is very sound advice from Nick. But please do what he says and not what he does. He has TWO craft in a similar state in MY garage at the moment and has gone on holiday. No amount of tea is going to get that sorted.

    Thanks you guys and girls.

Craig if I can get a copy of those diagrams some how that would be excellent.

Nick I've spent all winter sorting this project and its like trying to make a puzzle then putting it together. The kit that came with the hull is for a 503 so there's a BIT of changeing there. I will bring the hull and the bike down to Jake's hover-in and I'm hoping to get every thing mounted and ready there. one more thing my dad hates tea

This is what the bike has been reduced to.

Here's some luxuries I'm hoping to use in the future

    Day 2...........

Not much difference just the front right corner of the hull has been remade

    First things first,

you need to get your engine in & mounted, without that theres no going anywhere.

have you got your fan? and belts? pullys etc?

if not you need to use Paul Fitz's calculator to work out your ratio's etc.

I,m sure some of the TZR bods on here will advise you of BHP and RPM for the engine.

dont do what i did and ask for bits so i could collect them at the

race meeting, only to find people had allready loaded the van and

were almost on the way to the venue.

where abouts in the country are you?
