    Default Oil 2.0

With rising oil prices, global warming etc we might occasionally worry about the future of our oil powered sport. Perhaps Oil 2.0 might be the answer. According to the Times http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...ent/article413 3668.ece - Every living organism efficiently converts sugar from food into fat to store energy, and fats are chemically similar to the hydrocarbons that make up fuels. So by tinkering with a few genes, US scientists at biotech companies Amyris and LS9 have designed bacteria that eat almost any type of plant— wood chips, straw, sugarcane, corn, and other forms of cellulose—digest it, and convert it into oil.

Many a slip between start-up R&D and economic worldwide production but one to watch?

Hmm I've been recently looking heavily into alternate fuel for the Defender (20mpg diesel or whatever it is is starting to show!).

The problem with veg oil now is it seems to be more expensive than diesel, or only marginally cheaper!! So I've been looking at Kerosene / Jet A-1 but they don't really want me to put that in that car for some reason
