What a load of dumbos...... OK Inox is French for stainless steel, you could make the guard out of stainless, expensive here in the UK or normal mild steel, Stainless will save you having to paint it or plastic coat it. As for material 2mm is ok 2.5 better 3.00 too thick.

We at Vortex manufacture guards but transport to Greece would be very expensive ...get one made locally.....get some 50*50 weld mesh and beat it into a dome shape over a dustbin, roll up a ring of 5mm wire and weld it to the outside...job done....sounds easy....but it isn't!!!

I tried that... didn't work... now I make 4 mm inox with 6mm ring - 1step is ring made in circulate shablone than i curve each wire to right shape with curve mashine, than assamble the fanguard wire by wire... It takes several hours... but here is the look

It is true you save time with painting... but when you calculate the time and cost of removing the welden blacks from inox and polishing the guard to shy... it costs about same or eaven more as painting, only qualitie is much better, because it not rust. I would chose inox, specialy if you use hover in sea water.
