The Rhone Raid is a week-long cruise of the Rivers and Saone. Typically, 20 or so hovercraft take part roughly half French, half English and one Flying Dutchman.
Route will be south to north as last year -St Etienne des Sortes (south of Lyon) to St Jean de Losne (Dijon area), via Serrieres de Briord and Seyssel (approaching the Swiss border on the Rhone) . Approximately 6-700 kms in total. Each night we camp in a local town, apperitif and trophies courtesy of the local mayor. The breakfast and evening meal is laid on in a marquee with local wine inclusive. The only catering that you need to do is a picnic lunch. There is a safety jetski to assist with breakdowns. Teams must be self supporting with at least a car/motorhome driver and a hovercraft pilot for each leg. Families are most welcome (discount rates for children). The route passes through unspeakably picturesque scenery on both The Saone and The Rhone. For the hovercrafters there is the opportunity to play with some mildly challenging weirs and rapids, and for the brave there is The Weir of Great Respect (not compulsory but a great photo-opportunity). You don't need to speak French, the daily briefings are interpreted. My videos of previous Raids can be found here (including The Weir)http://www.youtube.com/user/chriscwcampbell.

I will email the usual suspects with registration forms and costings as soon as they are available.

Newbies are welcome - this is probably the best cruising event you can do - but you must be licenced and insured. The Raid is not a race, with some stretches of river speed-limited to 35kms per hour! Numbers are usually limited - so first come first served.

Anybody with queries, or who hasn't been on The Raid recently or ever, please contact me on supportcrew@hotmail.com or telephone 01329845141 (eves & weekends).

    Best Regards
    Chris Campbell
