2008-09-24 World Hovercraft Championship 2008

I would like to congratulate the Swedish Hovercraft Club for arranging a superb World Hovercraft Championship for us. For such a small club it was an amazing undertaking and one which has been an example to us all. They assembled a team from all over Europe to help them with the race organisation and administration which worked integrated immediately and worked like Clockwork!

It is noticeable that the standard and spectacle of World Championship Hovercraft racing continues to improve at each event and this time was no exception. We now have our Champions and you will see the results elsewhere in our web site. For the first time at our Championships we had live results and video clips published on the internet ~ this facility was watched world wide. This is something we will try and include at all future Championships.

We are now awaiting bids for our Championships in 2010. Great Britain has indicated that they hope to come forward with proposal soon, but failing that Germany will be able to help us.

There is much work to be done over the coming months. In particular we will be consulting with our member countries representatives on possible changes to our formula structure and definitions. I hope you will join in this debate on our web forum and also keep your representative up to date with your views so that when it comes time to vote he or she will be fully informed.

2008-09-23 WHF Awards for Excellence 2007 & 2008.

It gave me great pleasure at the recent World Hovercraft Championships to present the WHF Awards for Excellence.

The 2007 award went to Bob Windt from America. It was presented to and for:

“An exceptional and generous man who has dedicated his life to developing hovercraft and to introducing them to young and often disadvantaged students.Bob is an example to us all”. Kent Gano received it on his behalf and will re-present it to Bob at their next event in America.

The 2008 award went to Keith Oakley from Great Britain. It was presented to Keith for:

“Exceptional service to the world of hovercraft in designing and developing bespoke electronic systems and soft ware for lap scoring and noise analysis. These systems are at the forefront of current technology and have already received critical acclaim from experts’ world wide”.
